Slot Theme

For its latest 2016 release BetSoft Gaming went for a lighter theme, something cute and cuddly, delicate and soft, and primarily animal-friendly. The slot is called Kawaii Kitty, and in case you didn’t know what the first part of the title refers to, we’ll let you in on it – Kawaii means cute, and marks cuteness in Japanese language and culture. Therefore, don’t be surprised if the slot has a Japanese cartoon feel.

The game features 3D visual technology, though, and is without a doubt beautifully designed and animated. You just can’t help it but wish for the big-eyed kitty to jump out of the screen and right into your lap so you could pet her unconscious! But, it will stay seated comfortably in her little velvet chair on the right side of the reels, while you go through your slot session in a pastel-coloured, girl-bedroom environment. Think pink, light blue, girly decorations and bows.

Game Symbols

You won’t see any playing card icons or lucky sevens, as all the symbols in Kawaii Kitty slot are related to the theme. Here’s what the paytable includes: a carton of milk, a tin of tuna, a hairbrush, a bowtie, a fish, a white mouse and a bowl of cat food. All the symbols look friendly, since all of them have a little smile drawn on them. The game benefits from one special symbol, a ball of yarn, which features as the game’s Wild symbol and replaces others, but also participates in the special features, if properly combined.

If you compare Kawaii Kitty with other BetSoft popular titles, it seems as if they turned back to a slightly simpler game mechanics and structure. There are 15 positions for the symbols, therefore 3 rows and 5 spinning reels. There are a total of 10 winning lines, which are fixed and active at all times. We’re aware 10 paylines doesn’t sound like much, but there is a catch to it. Unlike most games where paylines work only from left to right, Kawaii Kitty pays both ways, so basically every line win is a double win! Coin values go from $0.02 to $1, and the coins per bet line adjustments range from 1 to 10, meaning you can place a bet of minimum $0.02 or maximum of $100 per spin.

The control panel offers interesting options like the Autoplay button and the Double up button. If you know you’ll have quite a number of spins, just go into automatic mode and sit back. The Double up option lets you flip a coin to enhance your wins.

Bonus Features

The two main extra features in Kawaii Kitty are the Expanding Wind feature and the Re-spin feature. The ball of yarn, two of them to be precise, one purple and one orange, when landed on the second, third and fourth reel initiate a lovely animation sequence to mark the Expending Wild. The word ‘Wild’ gets knitted across the entire reel from the two yarn balls.
Your wins get paid, and the knitted piece remains into place for a re-spin. While other reels spin for free once again, you get bigger odds of landing more wins combined with the expanded Wild already active and ready.

As far as payouts go, BetSoft’s Kawaii Kitty is a bit on the low side of the variance scale. The paytable is not as mesmerising as the cute cat’s eyes, with some symbols paying no more than 25 coins. The game’s jackpot prize is 500 coins, though, which is a handsome reward for watching over the sweet white ball of fluff for a while. And the average return to player percentage is estimated to be 95.6%, meaning base game payouts can be small, but luckily come often enough.

Considering the lightweight theme and an easy-to-follow game structure without too many details or gameplay elements, the overall impression is that Kawaii Kitty targets beginner players, those with a limited budget, and ultimately cat lovers – and we know there are plenty of them. The payline system goes both ways, and graphics are superb, since Kawaii Kitty also forms a part of BetSoft’s Series3 of slots. It’s a friendly game, simple and efficient, quite worth checking out.
