Wild Wild West: The Great Train Heist Slot Review
Released: February 2017
Software: Net Entertainment
Coin Values: 0.01 up to 1
Wild west theme is not new to NetEnt and they’ve once again demonstrated what a good job they are capable of doing when using it as an inspiration for their slot games. Wild Wild West: The Great Train Heist is a 5 reel, 3 row and 10 payline video slot featuring great visuals and an entertaining western music theme. While it doesn’t provide zillions of special features, free games round with 4 types of Wild actions will keep the excitement level high and potentially land you a handsome loot. Surely this is not the first time you’d be joining the villains in the virtual world, and once again it might prove to be an exciting adventure.
It’s high noon in the desert and a steam train is puffing away as it approaches an ambush, set up with a goal to rob the vehicle and its passengers of all of their valuables. While your first instinct might be to warn the unsuspecting driver, it will pay much more to join the heist. When you do, your high value wins will be delivered by the mob consisting of 3 armed gentleman and a dangerous-looking lady. Instead of the usual playing card icons, lower value symbols are represented by club, heart, spade and diamond, appropriately designed to fit the theme. Wild symbol is pretty easy to spot and will substitute for all except Scatter and Bonus icons.
While paylines are fixed, you get to choose the size of your investment by picking from 1 to 10 bet levels and coin size ranging from €0.01 to €1, meaning you’ll be able to stake between €0.1 and €100 per spin. When ready, click on the spin button fashioned as a revolver barrel and set the heist in motion. Autoplay will automatically play the game for up to 1,000 rounds, so that you can comfortably sit back and enjoy the story delivered by the colourful comic book style visuals and fantastic animations.
Landing 3 or more Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels activates 10, 20 or 30 free spins. Before you start spinning for free, a Wild feature is randomly selected via the Wild selector Wheel. During the free games, an overlay Wild symbol randomly appears on reels 1 to 3, and each free spins session randomly delivers one of four different Wild features. These include regular Wilds, spreading Wilds, x2 multiplying Wilds and expanding Wilds, the latter with the potential to provide up to 3 fully wild reels on each spin. Free games can be re-triggered and you could keep spinning for free as much as 60 times.
When 3 Bonus symbols in the form of golden safes appear on the reels, the Pick and Click feature is activated. Clicking on one of them will reveal a coin win which varies from x5 to x50 your bet.
Wild Wild West: The Great Train Heist is a medium variance game with a relatively high RTP of 96.7%. All Wild icons pay 500x your line bet for 5 on a payline, the same as the highest paying regular game icon, which is, incidentally, the lady. Numerous Wild options can significantly boost your wins while you’re spinning multiple times on just one bet, especially if the selector wheel graces you with the expanding Wild symbol.
The new NetEnt video slot is a nice take on the wild west theme, as beautifully produced as we’d expect from one of the industry’s best. While you’d probably struggle to find a better execution within this genre (except possibly for their own Dead or Alive), the game doesn’t offer as high win potential as some of the other new releases we’re seeing these days. If this doesn’t discourage you, feel free to join the gang and exploit the wild, wild action as much as it will allow.
