Superman 2 Slot Review
Released: February 2017
Coin Values: 0.25 up to 500
Superman II is based on the 1980 British-American film of the same title, starring once again Christopher Reeve as the man of steel himself. Faithfully replicating the plot, new Playtech video slot features the superhero fight against the three Kryptonian criminals, General Zod (Terence Stamp), Ursa (Sarah Douglas) and Non (Jack O’Halloran), who have been freed from the Phantom Zone by the detonation of a hydrogen bomb. Lovely Lois Lane, played by Margot Kidder, never leaves his side during the numerous adventures which involve random Wilds, multipliers, free games, instant cash prizes, and some other surprises waiting to delight you once you start spinning the reels.
Set against the silhouette of Metropolis at night, themed symbols form winning combinations across 5 reels and 25 paylines. The five main characters deliver highest value wins, top one awarded by who else than the superhero himself. Daily Planet logo, Clark Kent’s glasses and a green crystal are there to provide medium value rewards, followed by J to Ace playing card icons. Superman logo is Wild which helps you win by standing in for any of the other symbols, except for the Daily Planet bonus icon. It can also form winning combinations on its own and deliver generous payouts as the result.
Superman II plays on 25 fixed paylines, so the only important decision you need to make is how much to invest. Bet range allows you to stake €0.01 to €50 per line, or as little as €0.25 and as much as €1,250 per spin. Autoplay button offers you to play up to 99 rounds without any physical effort from your side, and turning on the Turbo mode will eliminate some of the animations and sounds to increase the speed of the game.
During the main game, you might see Superman flying over the reels and turning 2, 3 or 4 randomly selected symbols into Wilds. Should the Daily Planet logo appear on reels 1, 3 and 5, Headline Bonus will offer you to choose one of five bonus features from the newspapers headlines.
Phantom Zone feature wins you unlimited Free Games which only one symbol can put an end to. During each of the free spins, phantom zone occupies a certain 2×2 area and acts as Wild. Superhero reel at the bottom of the screen each time selects a different item, either x2 or x3 Multiplier, Superman logo, or the one which ends the bonus round. Skyline Fight feature wins you 10 Free Games with up to x5 Multiplier, while X-Ray feature awards 15 free spins with multiplying Wilds. If among the headlines offered by Daily Planet newspapers you select Lois & Clark Bonus, you’ll be prompted to keep picking shields until lining up 5 of the same colour and collecting the respective cash prize.
Battle for Metropolis engages you in a fight with the Kryptonian villains and prompts you to pick one of the offered shields in each stage of the bonus game. Shields will reveal cash prizes, special items and Collect symbols. X-ray icon is the best you can find as it reveals all of the other symbols and automatically awards the top prize. Collect icon terminates the feature, but could be cancelled with the help of the green crystal.
Being part of the Playtech’s DC series, Superman II comes with 4 randomly triggered progressive jackpots. The higher your bet, the bigger is the chance to activate it, and once you do, you’re guaranteed to win either Mini, Minor, Major or Grand jackpot.
Superman is the highest paying regular symbol which awards up to 1,000x your line bet, equaling as much as €50,000 when betting max. Wild icon is even more generous, paying 5,000x bet per line for five of a kind. RTP for this game is 95.03% which includes the jackpot contribution of 0.99%. Mini, Minor, Major and Grand jackpots reset to the value of $100, $1,000, $10,000 and $200,000 respectively, so those are the minimum amounts you’ll win should you manage to trigger the jackpot feature.
Being launched at the same time as another DC Comics Playtech slot, it’s inevitable to start comparing the two. While they both feature the same superhero, just about everything else is different. Superman II plays on 25 paylines instead of 100, but provides much, much more in terms of special features. In fact, it offers so many that it might take you some time to figure out what is what. But that’s what would make this slot super exciting even if it didn’t offer high win potential both during the base game and the bonus rounds. Which it does, so feel free to join the forces of good and pick up the prize you deserve.
