Many genres have longevity in the gaming world, but some prove more long term and consequently more popular than others. Playtech, who have brought players Age of Gods: King of Olympus, have added to their success with the title Age of the Gods: Furious 4, another fantasy based title.
There is no way of escaping that there are quite a few similarities between this game and The Fantastic Four, also from the Playtech brand. Not only is this to do with a similar name and the focus on four individual characters, but also because there are four bonus rounds that you can unlock whilst playing.
- Atlas:- This is the Age of Endurance Feature and it will gift you three extra spins, during which time Atlas will become a Sticky no matter where he lands on the reels. What is more he will stay there during any other free spins you should win.
- Pandora:- The Age of Curiosity Feature is what this beauty will trigger, and it will give you four special spins with a multiplier added on top every time Pandora appears during said spins. Any wins you get will be carried over to all successive spins and not simply the ones activated here.
- Apollo:- Age of Light Feature is what this one is called, involving another set of four spins during which Apollo himself will become an Expanding Wild.
- Hephaestus:- This is also known as The Age of Fire Feature and it includes four spins in which Hephaestus becomes Stacked on the first reel. Furthermore, the other demigods are removed leaving only the god of fire to fill those spaces.
These four mini games are to be enjoyed in addition to the Free Games Feature, a special trait exclusive to this activity that activates when a user finds three or more Scatter icons, which are golden thrones in this instance. When this happens you will gain 12 bonus spins.
So far so good when it comes to gameplay, but what about that all important jackpot? In Age of the Gods: Furious 4 it’s a progressive and there are several different amounts you can discover. Unlike the mini levels within the title, these can be triggered at any time, and when it happens you will be shown 20 coins that you have to match three of in order to win that jackpot. Although it’s The Ultimate Power jackpot that everyone wants, you’re always guaranteed to walk away with one of four prizes.
To be in with a chance of beating this game, users first need to bet between 20p and £500, which is a hugely generous betting range for everyone to take advantage of. By placing a stake you will have up to 20 paylines to select and play across five reels, a pretty standard format for an online video slot.
Where the issue for us arises is to do with the graphics themselves; it’s not that they’re not of a good quality, but it’s more to do with the fact that the effort is spotty at best. While some icons are rich with detail others aren’t given that same luxury, and therefore the title looks a little mismatched. In all honesty, the appearance is exactly the same quality and aesthetic of the Age of the Gods: King of Olympus, which will surprise no one, but disappoint those who were hoping to see some visual improves/changes. If this title should ever be remastered or altered in some way, we’d like to see the lower symbols (card tiles) replaced with more unique designs.
Looking at simply the mechanics of the activity, there isn’t much wrong with Age of the Gods: Furious 4 at all – it has plenty of features involved with each bonus round, four different jackpots, and many ways for one bonus level to trigger another. It is definitely one of the better Playtech games we have engaged with, despite the questionable selectiveness of the visuals, and is one we’d highly recommend.
